This week we recognize Chairman Matthew Bergstrom, volunteer of the National Capital, Eastern Virginia Friends of NRA.
As a fairly new event to the Northern Virginia area, Matthew took on the challenge to make this event a success from the very beginning. Though many feel the area is engulfed by those who don’t support the Second Amendment, Matthew knew a strong base of firearm enthusiasts was in arms reach.
By day Matthew works at a law firm with a focus on Second Amendment issues. It’s because of his experiences that he understands the climate of the topic in the area and the response from local constituents. He channeled this understanding while making preparations for his event and dedicated all his spare time over the course of five months to make it happen. “He worked diligently on marketing efforts, solicited high quality donations, worked at The Nations Gun Show, and had prominent VIPs make commitments to attend,” said NRA Field Representative David Wells.
His methods proved to be successful. Just last year he sold 175 banquet tickets bringing in $15,000, sold 8 sponsorships totaling $14,000, raised $35,000 in pre and post-event raffles and acquired 25 donations valued over $13,000. The people of Northern Virginia spoke up in volumes with their support.
The National Capital event was conceptualized to have a prominent influence to its community and Matthew has helped to ensure this. Though fairly new, this committee is on track to continue making an impact for the Second Amendment and its supporters in the premier area of Washington, D.C. for years to come.
“This event was a “premier” event on many levels,” said Wells. “Matthew’s hard work and dedication made that possible and I’m privilege of being a part of it.”
